The coastal hike and the mangroves

This tour takes place in the southeast of Curaçao, the area of Jan Thiel and Spanish Water. The coast here is rough limestone, worn by the sea into ledges and overhangs, with clear turquoise water below.

The heart of the morning is on foot. A coastal trail of about 40 minutes follows the shoreline, with a short stretch of a few meters over rocks in the sea, and ends at a turquoise beach tucked inside the mangroves. The guides keep this beach secret, so its name and location are not shared, not even on this page.

Mangroves grow where salt water meets the land. Their tangled roots hold the shore together and give young fish a sheltered place to grow up. The photos from the hike show roots reaching into clear water, a quiet lagoon under a wide sky, and the rocky trail winding down toward the trees.

After the beach, the Jeep takes over. The tour continues to a hidden lookout and to Spanish Water, a large inland bay joined to the sea by a narrow channel, where many of the island's boats are moored.
