Shete Boka, Playa Piskado and Cas Abao

The day starts on the wild north coast at Shete Boka National Park. Shete Boka means seven inlets in Papiamentu, after the bokas the sea has cut into the limestone, where the trade winds drive the waves in hard. A path through the rocks leads to Boka Tabla, a cave where you can stand and watch the sea break in. The park also protects small beaches where sea turtles come ashore to nest.

All three stops lie in Banda Abou, the dry, hilly western end of Curaçao, where cactus lines the roads and the kunuku, the open countryside, stretches between small villages. On the west side the island is sheltered from the trade winds, so the bays there are calm and clear.

Next comes the snorkeling, at Playa Piskado on the west coast. The name comes from piskadó, Papiamentu for fisherman: local fishermen bring in their boats and clean their catch here, which is why green sea turtles come so close to the beach. With mask, snorkel and fins you can swim alongside them in the clear water.

The photos from the tour also show the coral cliffs over the clear water at Westpunt, the village at the island's western tip, and a pelican resting on the rocks of a beach there.

The afternoon is for Cas Abao, a white-sand beach on the west coast with clear water and beach beds in the shade of the trees. On this tour your beach bed, a coin for the shower and a free soft drink there are included, so you can settle in and swim until it is time to head back.
