Where the tour goes

The two ends of Curaçao could hardly be more different, and this day shows you both. It begins in Willemstad, the capital, whose historic inner city and harbor are on UNESCO's World Heritage List. On the Punda side of St. Anna Bay, the Handelskade waterfront is lined with colored merchant houses, and the floating market sets out its boats and awnings nearby.

The liqueur stop is at Landhuis Chobolobo, the yellow plantation house where Senior & Co. makes Curaçao liqueur. The island's best-known drink is flavored with the dried peel of the laraha, a bitter orange that grows on Curaçao.

From there the road heads west into Banda Abou, the dry, hilly end of the island, with cactus, salt pans where flamingos wade, and old plantation houses (landhuizen) on their hills. The tour's photos include Landhuis Knip, where the slave revolt of 1795 led by Tula began; a monument to the revolt stands in front of the house.

The photo stop at Knip Beach looks over Grote Knip (Playa Kenepa Grandi), a white beach in a turquoise bay that is one of the most photographed views on the island.

On the rough north coast, Shete Boka National Park is named for its seven inlets, or bokas, cut into the limestone. A path through the rocks leads to Boka Tabla, a cave where you can watch the waves break in.

What does the tour include?

The day covers Willemstad, a stop at the liqueur factory, both the east and the west side of the island, entrance to Shete Boka National Park, the old plantation houses (land houses), a photo stop at Knip Beach, the flamingo sanctuary and a stop for lunch. The lunch itself is not part of the price.

Is lunch included?

Which parts of Curaçao does the tour cover?

The other is the countryside of the west: hills, salt flats, flamingos, plantation houses and small coves, plus the wild north coast at Shete Boka National Park.
