Padel we offer
- Padel Court at Padel X, near Mambo Beach · Mambo Beach, Willemstad · XCG 60 per court per hour, up to 4 players
Padel, the racket sport that is hugely popular in Spain and Latin America, has courts of its own in Curaçao. At Padel X, by Mambo Beach, you can book a court for an hour or two in the middle of the day, then walk to the beach for a swim.
What padel is
Padel is played mostly in doubles, on a court of 20 by 10 meters enclosed by glass walls and mesh. The rackets are short and solid, without strings, and the ball is a little softer than a tennis ball. You serve underhand, the scoring is the same as in tennis, and the walls are part of the game: after the ball has bounced, you can play it back off the glass.
Because the court is small and the walls keep the ball in play, rallies last longer than in tennis, which is why the game is popular with beginners and with players coming from tennis or squash. Two players can also play singles on a narrower court.
Padel at Padel X
Padel X has eight courts, five of them under a roof, and the club has a bar, a terrace that looks out over the first courts, a rooftop lounge upstairs, changing rooms with showers, and ice baths in its wellness corner. It is on Dr. Martin Luther King Boulevard in Willemstad, about 11 minutes' walk from Mambo Beach, on the road to the beach and the Sea Aquarium, east of Pietermaai.
On the court's own page a map tells it all: pick your hour and the real sun moves over the club and its roofs, then four players play a game on a covered court, point by point.
When you can play, and what it costs
Through Kua Kaminda you book between 11:00 and 16:00, every day. A court lasts one hour, an hour and a half or two hours, and ends by 16:00, so a court from 15:00 is one hour.
- Three or four players play on a doubles court: XCG 60 an hour, so XCG 15 each when four of you play.
- Two players play on the singles court: XCG 50 an hour.
- Rackets are for hire at XCG 5 each, and the balls are free.
You pay at the club, cash or card, in Caribbean guilders (XCG); USD 1 is about XCG 1.78. Nothing is paid online, and there are no booking fees.
Shade or sun
Five of the eight courts are covered. In the middle of the day the sun stands high over Curaçao, so if you'd rather play in the shade, ask for a covered court when you book: Padel X gives you one if one is free.
Before and after your game
The club is close to the beach, so a court at noon and a swim after fit in one easy day. From the club it's about 900 meters on foot along Dr. Martin Luther King Boulevard and Bapor Kibra to Mambo Beach. Willemstad's historic center is a short drive away: our guide to Willemstad covers Punda, Otrobanda and Pietermaai, and for an afternoon in the old town, see our rum tasting and museum visits.
For more time on the water, compare our boat trips, which leave from Spanish Water in the southeast of the island, and our snorkeling tours. Our illustrated map of Curaçao shows how it all fits together.
What to bring
