Klein Curaçao Day Trip on the Mermaid

Mermaid Boat Trips · Klein Curaçao
Spend a day on Klein Curaçao, the little uninhabited island south-east of Curaçao. The Mermaid, Mermaid Boat Trips' own motor yacht, sails at seven in the morning from Fishermen's Pier in Spanish Water along Curaçao's south coast, past Fuik and Oostpunt, then south across the open sea; sometimes dolphins swim along. On Klein Curaçao you have about seven hours on its white beach: snorkel with the sea turtles in front of the boat, or walk to the old lighthouse and the shipwreck on the windward shore. Breakfast and a barbecue lunch are served, with an open bar of soft drinks and juices.

About Klein Curaçao
Klein Curaçao, Dutch for Little Curaçao, is a small, flat island off the southeastern tip of Curaçao, with no one living on it. Getting there is part of the day. The Mermaid leaves Fishermen's Pier in Spanish Water, a large, sheltered inland bay, and slips out to sea through its narrow channel. She then follows Curaçao's south coast past Fuik and Oostpunt, the quiet eastern end of the island, before turning south across the open sea. Sometimes dolphins swim alongside.
The boat anchors off the long white beach on the island's sheltered side, where the water is clear and turquoise and sea turtles swim right in front of the boat. Ashore, Mermaid Boat Trips has its own beach house under thatched roofs, with picnic tables in the shade of a palapa and a lookout tower over the beach. A few thatched fishermen's huts stand along the sand.
A walk across the island takes you to the old lighthouse, with the pink lighthouse keeper's house and its orange roof, and on to the windward shore, where the waves come in from the open sea and a shipwreck lies on the coast.
With about seven hours on the island, there is time for both: snorkeling and swimming off the beach, and the walk to the lighthouse and the wreck.
